Sergey Esayan

17 September - 26 October 2002
The Marble Palace

The opening exhibition is one of the most significant exhibits which have been organized by Contemporary Art Department of the Russian museum lately. Esayan's works (b. 1939), unlike works of most of Russian emigrant artists, were publicly recognized abroad. The artist is less famous in Russia despite the fact that his first personal exhibition was held in the Institute of physical problems in 1961 with the help of P.L.Kapiza. After Esayan's departure for France, in 1979, his works were successfully demonstrated at personal exhibitions in Vienna, Cologne, Munich, London, Monaco, Bologna, Rome, Paris, and Strasburg. S.Esayan performed also as a stage director and a designer in a play about the life of V.Meyerhold (Stockholm, Shakarazad theatre), and collaborated with I.Bergman. His creative work was greatly influenced by outstanding people of culture and art of the 20th century: A.Kroochenykh, V.Steenberg, P.Bruck, S.Bekett, M.Fuko, L.Goomilev. The exhibition is held under the auspices of M.Rostropovich and G.Vishnevskaya.
