The exhibition contains over 600 exhibits (over 300 paintings and graphic works, about 200 items of decorative and applied arts) and represents the period of time from the epoch of Peter I to nowadays. Portraits and genre-paintings, dresses and suits, full-dress uniforms and wigs, furniture and household goods, stained-glass windows and arms, studies for hats and fabrics, posters and signboards are shown at the exhibition. The idea of the Painting, Style, and Fashion exhibition is to show an interaction between fashion and fine arts of different epochs.
The exhibition is organized in collaboration with Peterhof reserve museum, State Museum of History of Saint-Petersburg, A.V. Suvorov State Memorial Museum, Military and Historical Museum of Artillery, Engineer and Signal Corps. For the first time the Russian Museum represents the artworks from private collections of N. Kostrigina, P. Novbari, M. Suslov, V. Sarapas and the others.
Designer Tatyana Parfyonova made the Fashion-2009 installation of 12 figures specially for the exhibition.
