Fate
A. Tarsia. 1717
This sculpture comes together with the one of Nemesis. It was ordered and made in Venice to decorate the Grotto roof.
Fate - personification of destiny, a certain destination or lot - is shown as a blind old man. He has the book of fate in his left hand. When a man is born his lot is indicated there. Fate leans against an altar entwined with an oak garland - an attribute that signifies the gift of prophecy, also typical of this deity.
