Nemesis

A. Tarsia. 1717
Paired with Fate.
Nemesis is a daughter of Night, a goddess of retribution, who dispenses happiness and unhappiness due to people-s merits. She is depicted leaning against a fasces (a bunch of switches and a pole-axe) - an attribute of justice and sign of the power to inflict penalty tribunes of the people in Ancient Rome.
In her left hand, Nemesis has a laurel wreath and a precious chain to encourage the deserving. To show her incorruptibility, the goddess tramples on the coins and jewellery spilt out of the sack.
