Night

G. Bonazzi. 1717
The Night goddess is represented by a female figure wrapped in a star shawl, wearing a poppy wreath on her head - poppy casts sleepiness. There is a bat on her belt and an owl, a Night bird, sitting at her feet.
Radiant Aurora, shining Midday, gloomy Sunset and wise and thoughtful Night were allegories of the four times of the day and were meant to be placed on the roof of the Grotto. There is an album of drawings, a kind of accompanying document, in which an unknown Italian artist depicted statues and busts ordered by Peter the Great from Italy. The album contains the titles of the sculptures and the names of the masters who created them. The drawings in the album show the sculptures of the times of day with wings, only the wings are no longer there.
