Glory
P. Baratta. Circa 1718
The Glory statue symbolises Russian military victories in the Northern War.
Following the norms of European art, Glory is allegorically shown as a young woman. She leans against an obelisk, a symbol of eternity, and holds a laurel wreath - the prize given to the winner - in her hand.
Unfortunately, three hundred years spent in the open air did not pass unnoticed for the sculpture - its marble started to ruin. In 2003 a copy of the Glory statue was placed in the Nevsky Alley of the Summer Garden, while the original was moved to indoor storage.
