Artistic heritage of the old masters is added with contemporary sculptors' works - and this collection sector develops very actively.
In 1998 to the Russian Museum centenary there was founded as an experiment the first in Russia open storage fund of sculpture of the 18th - beginning of the 20th centuries. In specially equipped rooms were placed 324 exhibits. Visitors were giving a chance to see not only exposition halls but also fund storage that is the integral part of museum activity. This form turned to be very successful, it acquired a great resonance and could be continued. We plan to put open storage funds of sculpture of the 18th - 20th centuries equipped with up-to-date equipment and techniques on the Michael's (Engineers') Castle territory.
