Scientific, prospecting, repair, recreation, restoration and other kinds of works plan to 2008
- studying of soil composition;
- hydrological investigations of park water system;
- dendroproject with landscape composition analysis;
- reconstruction of engineering nets, road works;
- pipe-bend of downpour water, drainage system, clearing of the pond;
- restoration of cast-iron bridge and cast-iron fences;
- exhibition pavilion building;
- exhibition ground equipping;
- children playground equipping;
- equipping grounds meant for season cafes;
- mounting of bronze sculptures.
The Mikhailovsky Gardens - one of the pearls of landscape gardening, monument of national importance and creation of the great Rossi - were on the point of being turned into a neglected wilderness. Now they have been transferred to the ownership of the Russian Museum. In continuation of the traditions of the Summer Garden, the museum plans to create there a permanent exposition of Russian sculpture from its archives. All the statues will be recast in bronze so as not to endanger the priceless plaster and marble originals. The gardens themselves will in addition be restored as a work of Russian eighteenth-early nineteenth century landscape gardening. The garden will be open for the visitors free of charge.
The area of the garden - 9.17 hectares
At the moment the State Architecture Institute is carrying out the works.
The cost of the project works - $ 61 000
The cost of the Mikhailovsky gardens restoration and reconstruction - $ 3 700 000
The museum has carried out the following works:
- cleaning the drainage system of the pond,
- the fence's repairing works have been begun (with the use of sponsors menas),
- casting and positioning of the Bronze sculpures of Flora nad Hercules (they were set at the Engineers' castle northern staircase).
