Now existing plan of the palace section was formed in 1780s when there was built the Service House in front of the palace's eastern facade. Green plantations appeared in the beginning of the 20th century. In 1977-78 when reconstructing and organizing the yard near the Service House western wall was set the fountain with marble sculpture of the middle 19th century that had been stored in the Lenin Museum funds. In the yard center was laid out oval flower-bed. In 1983 in the flower-bed center was constructed granite base where was set the historical armored car. In 1922 after the Marble Palace was transferred to the Russian Museum the car was taken off from the base and given to the Rocket Troops and Artillery Museum. In 1996 Alexander III monument by Paolo Trubetskoy was mounted on the vacant base.

When the gates from the Neva embankment will be restored we will have possibility to convey visitors by water from the Russian Museum palaces to the Troitsky Bridge landing-stage.
