Restoration of the Main Staircase
The Main Staircase is one of the most magnificent interiors in the castle. It is located in the south-western wing of the castle and leads to the Emperor's state chambers and the private suite of Grand Duke Konstantin Pavlovich.
The staircase is made of grey and white marble. The bannisters lining the stairs are adorned with balusters of gilded bronze. The coat of arms of the Russian Empire stands on the middle wall. Statues of white marble once stood in the bays on the landings.
The project envisages the complete restoration of the staircase according to historical materials and includes:
Reconstruction of the lost natural and artificial marble

Restoration of the surviving monumental murals on the arches by painting on top of the plaster and "imitation marble" painting
