Emperor Paul's Bedchamber
Paul's gala bedchamber is the most famous interior in the Michael castle. It was here, on the night of March 11 and 12 1801, that the Emperor was murdered in a palace coup.
Having been decorated in the Paul's taste in the beginning of the 19th century the bedchamber is preserved as a historic memorial.
In 1857 the Church of the Apostles St. Peter and St. Paul was created in its place by the architect K.A.Ukhtomsky on the decree of Nicholas' Engineering College.
Interior decoration was fulfilled on emperor family money.
Original blueprints were recently discovered in the Russian State Naval Archives in St. Petersburg, permitting the detailed reconstruction of this interior.
