This hall represents a rare overlapping of two waves of interest in classical antiquity - the 1780s - 1790s and the 1830s - 1840s. The majority of copies of Raphael's famous frescoes in the Vatican were made back in the 1790s by the Italian painters Antonio Vighi and Giovanni Scotti (copies in the Hermitage are the only analogy in Russia). The Stroganovs put up the pictures in the 1850s, adding to them new ones in the Pompeii style (the only surviving example of the гPompeii Corridorх of this period is in the Mariinsky Palace.)

Several overhead floods in the 1980s and 1990s inflicted serious damage on the structures and decor of the ceiling. Several of the pictures were also damaged.

Full reconstruction of the interior, besides the ceiling, involves restoration of the parquet and manufacture of two crystal chandeliers lost this century.

Approximate cost of the work - $ 208 065
