Created by Francesco Rastrelli in the 1750s, the Large Ballroom is the only completely preserved Russian baroque interior in St. Petersburg (interiors in the Winter Palace and the Big Palace in Tsarskoye selo were restored after destruction later).

The restoration works have been begun in 1995.

The museum has carried out the following works:

  • restoration of the moulding
  • restoration of the gilded fretwork
  • restoration of the second-largest plafond in Europe by Giuseppe Valeriani

Completion of the works necessitates:
recreation of the parquet floor using rosewood, maple, sandal-wood, plane, lemon, amaranth, box-tree (the area of rosette and frieze - 67,8 sq. m.).
